In your honest opinion..

A little background about my education. I have done a 3 year Aircraft Maintenance Engineering course (Its a Govt of India Recognized Certificate Course) after completing my 12std. I have 4 years experience working as a painter, electrician and construction supervisor. I have 6 months work experience working with an Indian Airline as an apprentice. I have experience assembling computers and started up my own computer maintenance firm which I currently do part time due to time restraints. I am currently employed in a IT company which deals with domain parking for the past one year. The reason I shifted to IT was due to no jobs in the Aviation sector in India. My parents had applied for PR way back in 2003 and we were all supposed to come to Canada at that time, but they backed out before the final formalities were done as they were worried about job prospects after coming to Canada as our immediate relatives were still struggling to find jobs at that time after migrating almost 2 years before us and I was still schooling at that time. This time, I want to try to go on my own. I don't know which would b the right course to select as i have experience in different areas. I am not sure about the Aviation sector in canada and the last that i heard, it seems very difficult to get a job in Aviation. My main focus is to do a course that is in demand in Canada,duration of the course is not a problem. I am aged 27 and am worried about my Visa getting rejected if I apply for a diploma course as i have a huge education gap due to my work experience in between. The education consultants over here say that bcos I don't have continous education, I won't b able to get admission in a college and if I do it will be rejected as I will be sitting with guys who have just past out of 12th (18 yr olds), even though my Canadian relatives totally disagree with this fact and say they have alot of middle aged people sitting for classes in college, but how do the canadian govt. look at my situation. I don't know if having experience in different fields is a plus point of a negative.. Could you suggest a few courses that you feel I should do which are in demand in Canada..I would like to do a trade course in Canada or a diploma course or apply for immigration as a skilled worker using my past experience. What would you suggest is the best thing to do in ur honest opinion?

The FSW (federal skilled worker) program will start accepting applications again in May for applicants without job offers in Canada. The rules are changing somewhat as well. I would recommend you spend some time reading through the thread below to determine if you qualify to apply.

Unfortunately I'm not in the aviation industry and can't comment on the job market in Canada.

if u have experience in more then one filed its your Plus point.......But you have to plan your self and stick to one profession that is in demand in new FSTC list check out below link

Hello Sheldon, Here's the bottom line regarding your inquiries:

Canada won't give a c*@p regarding your education or work experience. As long as its outside their country, it doesn't mean anything to them. YOU HAVE TO STUDY, engage volunteer work, and work in blue collar jobs because it is what they want. I suggest taking a short course in plumbing, carpentry or welding in your country and PREPARE to study those things again in Canada. Because you cannot work there without any certification from Canada.

As a Painter and Electrician, For a more than a year.. ( Had to fund my education at that time) but no formal education in painting or as an electrician - Hands on experience and training . I have carried out complete electrical work for houses and have letters to prove my work experience but no formal training, so don't know if the experience will be counted :-(

Could you guide me in what is the right path to select to apply for PR in Canada, What category fits me best? A skilled worker or in a skilled trade? Or should I apply for further studies?

In Canada and USA it has a good demand.........you should stick your attention in this field.......and get Canadian education...and Canadian Experience in this field.........if you have any problem in regular studies ...try to explore in Distance learning or correspondence courses.....and start working as volunteer in any IT company......What u did in India.....in Canada it don't have any worth.......many Doctors and Engineers are a Cab drivers in Toronto.....so....try to get Canadian Education and Experience it will worth u a lot....don't confuse on this stage....and don't waste your time....focus on your studies.......
