Yea, you said a year... It depends on the job. It could be 17 weeks.

Mother can take complete 52 weeks (17 for Maternity & 35 for Parental, These are not paid by the Company but the Government and the amount will be thhe 55% of the highest pay check amount in the last 22 Weeks) if the father doesn't want to be a part of the Parental Leaves, Some companies also offer Paternity leave for 2 weeks (Paid)

If eligible... It's the same kind of rule as in the UK. The person, if employed, HAS to be offered a min of 17 weeks paid maternity. Depending on your contract or your salary you can be offered up to a year. As well as that you can split it so that the Dad gets some paid time off while the mum works or vice versa. The government also has a scheme where they will pay up to 55% if eligible.

You don't just get paid for a year by the government. There's conditions. It's the same in NZ, UK and Canada.

YES!!! We lived in a tiny mountain town with 4 sushi restaurants! Blew so much money there!!!
