I'm at the very final stages to completing my application, I have my UK Police Check completed and received in the mail

Is it true that I also need a Canadian police check including Finger print scans?

Many people have told me that the Canadian Police check is not necessary as the CIC carry out the check themselves.?

If CIC need your Canadian police certificate, they will ask you to get it. Otherwise, you don't need to get it by yourself.

I never submitted one when I renewed my work permits from within Canada, and I didn't submit one last year for the open work permit either, so I think you'll be fine and they just do it themselves (if at all), but check their website if their are any new rules with regard to this (but I'm not aware of any).

You don't need your Canadian Police Check. Only those countries you lived more than 6 months since 18 years old. In your case, your UK police check is all you need. If they do ask for it, it will be likely because there is someone of the same name/birth date as yours that has a criminal record in Canada. This is used to separate you from the other who has a criminal record.

I don't think the length of your stay in Canada has any bearing in CIC requesting your Canadian Police Check if they ever did request it. There are a few people who stayed in Canada for years usually through work permit/Study visa and never been asked for a Canadian Police Record through PR sponsorship.
