In between visa-types whilst inside Canada

I'm currently living in Canada with my (Canadian) fiance, on a study visa studying full time at university. We get married in August, and will start the spousal sponsorship route as soon as we have our marriage certificate. I noticed that while waiting for the spousal application to go through I am able to obtain a 1 year open work permit that I'd hope to apply for also. The reason being is because we can only afford to keep up paying crazy international tuition fees for so long and I'd rather avoid taking out another loan to do so (my current loan only stretches so far per year, I will fall short later this year due to taking on extra summer classes).

So my question is, am I able to have an open work permit whilst on a study visa whilst also waiting for the spousal visa to process?

Another point, if I can't carry the work permit at the same time as a study visa (which I'm guessing not), once the spousal application has gone through, I assume I gain PR status then (on a probationary term I think it is?) - from then on would I then pay standard resident tuition fees at university?

Background info if it may be relevant: I'm a British citizen. Province is Saskatchewan.

Once you are a PR you don't have to pay international tuition anymore. You can apply for an open work permit if you apply inland. However, for a British citizen, inland takes much longer than outland. You can apply outland and still stay in Canada, but there is no work permit with it.

I'm in a similar situation and so confused!!

I'm on a 2 year Irish working holiday visa but currently in Ireland where we are getting married in August. We are going back to Canada in September, I will have another year on my working holiday visa. BUT I want to start my PR process, I've read it's easier if I apply Outland, does that mean I will loose my visa when we go back in September?

If I apply inland, it would not really work. My finances job requires him to come to Ireland every summer, I will obviously want to come with him. Applying inland means I can't leave the country! Aaaahh

I'd appreciate some guidance

It is FASTER if you apply outland. You will not loose your holiday visa because you have have submitted a PR application. You would only loose the holiday visa if 1. It expires before your PR application has finished being processed or 2. When you receive PR status/approval. When you land as a PR they will remove any previous visas that you had even if they were not expired because you no longer need them. At that point you will receive a SIN number and PR card.

The OWP is only through in-land applications, which are much longer. Check out the London VO spreadsheet, as many Brits are being processed in Ottawa and the long posted time for London processing reflects many non-British applications being processed there.
