Hello everyone,
I was hoping someone has/had encountered this before and could enlighten me on how I should go aboard.

So first of all my passport expires in 5 months and I am in the process of renewing it.
My Post graduate work permit expires along with the passport but with the options of extending it for 3 months since we are given 3 years.
I have already fulfilled my requirements to start applying for the CEC.
Should i start applying for it and later update the office of my passport changes and etc?
The passport will be a brand new one with a new number.

What should I do?

Regards

Anil

I was in the same situation. If you have already applied then wait for the passport but keep your application complete.
I think you should get your passport in couple of weeks. I got mine in 4 weeks.

I just got my new passport after applying a month back. However, I did file my application with old passport. Now, once I get AOR will send scanned copy of my new passport along with written explanation. Hope that will suffice. Actually I wasn't aware that everything will be new in my passport else I would have waited.
When did you apply for passport renewal? If its a matter of couple of weeks, I would suggest you to wait to avoid any problems later on. And when we are thinking in terms of year long processing time a week or two won't matter :)

Hello,

I just applied a couple of days ago.
It will probably take a month or 2 if i am right.
Holding back my application until it arrives would be a better option I think?

Please let me know of anything else I should be aware of.

Regards

Anil

I would suggest applying for CEC now. You could always include a note saying that you've already applied to renew you passport, then by the time you get the new passport you should have gotten your AOR and you just email a scanned copy of the new passport to CPP-O.

Awesome thanks but I got a concern with the IELTS result sheet.
The ID on the result sheet would be probably be the passport number so do you think it will cause an issues when i send in the new passport?
I am worried that they might ask me to redo the exam again =/
What do you think?

Anyone?

Your passport number on your new passport is the same # as your old one ;)
New Passport number will not be the same as the old passport, especially for India. You can check with IELTS people. They infact told me that they will issue a new one provided I show a proof of my old passport.

LOL CIC won't ask you to redo your IELTS because you have a new passport number. When you initially submit the application, you will include scans of your current passport (the one that you used for your IELTS exam). When you get the new passport, you will email them a scan of that one. Meaning they will have the information for both the old and new passports.
CIC understands that passports expire and that passport numbers change upon renewal for most countries, you will certainly not be penalised for this.
