Hi Allison,
Did your vehicle have a clean title or was it being financed? My vehicle is under finance at toyota financial, I asked them about getting a clearance to bring it to Canada, but they said they couldn't do it. Any advice?

Hi,

I'm not Allison, but I was able to export my car which is still under financing. The major requirement for you to be able to export a financed car from the US and import to Canada is the consent of the financing company, without this, you cannot export the vehicle. Try to negotiate with them, make sure you talk to the right people. I got the same response from my financing company at first. Fortunately, I was able to contact their consumer loan services and they were able to provide me with the conditions that I need to comply in order for them to allow me to export my car out of the US.

Thanks for replying BZ Mom. I am out of the country and haven'y signed in for weeks. I did have a clean title so can offer no advice to viper. Sorry.

im trying to import a bmw 745i which is around $15,000 how much will all the fees be if i try to import it thank you pleasse let me know

Thank you, this information is not easy to find.

What I am trying to understand is, how much did you save by importing after all costs, compared to buying in Canada?
Did you get the State tax refunded to you for the purchase in the US?

What I am trying to figure out, is when my time comes to land in Canada, should I make the effort to buy a car in the US and import, or is the financial saving not substantial?
Say, a new Mitsubishi Outlander 7 seats, or 5 seats Subaru Forrester of average trim.

I also read somewhere that I should own it for at least 30 days before importing.. is that correct?

Thanks!
