I am from Austria(Europe) and I am currently studying in Vancouver and am therefore am a temporary resident in Canada for about 1 year.
I am here for about 1 month now and my laptop just broke down so I need to buy a new one. But I can't buy one here because I need a warranty for Austria for when I come back. So I have to buy one online from home in Austria and have it shiped here.
Now my question is, do I have to pay any duty/taxes, whatever,.. when importing something which I am going to take back with me in a year anyway?
I already contacted the canadian border services agency but they only keep telling me that I am allowed to import goods but not if I have to pay anything for it.
I would be really gratefull if you could help me on this, I really need the laptop soon and don't know who to ask anymore ???
