Hello everyone,

Your help in the below questions would be greatly appreciated:

1. As personal vehicles fall into the category of personal items that are allowed to be imported Duty free, does this mean that PST also is exempt from the sale price of the car?
2. As far as I know GST is exempt. If PST is applicable is it applied on the sale price or the depreciated value (on the day of importing) of the vehicle.
3. My wife is a Canadian citizen. Is it possible to transfer the title under her name after importing it to Canada to avoid PST?
4. OR is there any loophole to avoid paying PST when registering the vehicle?
5. We'll be getting the driving history record from the DMV, the no claims record from the insurance company, no recall letter from the dealer, Canada insurance card (proof of insurance from US insurance company), car registration record (US), title, and bill of sale. Do I need anything else?

Thanks

Thanks PMM for your reply. To clarify, I am immigrating from the U.S. as I am there on a work permit.
I'm not sure what you mean by transferring the car for a year. Would you please clarify?

When you import your personal effects duty-free, you cannot sell / transfer anything for one year. After one year, you can sell / transfer.
