It is high time CIC should adopt appeal system for Study Permit refusals like UK and Australia. UK has administrative review system that is very effective. I am writing a petition about this important issue. Give you input. Let's put stop to discriminatory behaviour of visa officers.

Please elaborate what discriminatory behavior?

You can certainly create a petition - but it's going to be a complete waste of time.

Canada just elected a new prime minister and he has already made it clear what his priorities are with regards to immigration. There are already more than enough items on that list to keep him and his party busy for the next four years. Setting up a formal appeal process for study permit refusals isn't going to happen.

If you want to focus on something that benefits students - get behind the Liberal party's promise to make it once again easier for international students to obtain PR through CEC.

very well said.

they are both equally important issues. new immigration minister himself said that corruption and red-tape is rampant at visa offices. there is no legislation required for appeal system. it will be an executive order by immigration minister and the respective visa office will hear appeal against the refusal by marking the case to a different officer for review. NDP and some of the Liberal MP's support this cause.

Federal Court prohibits visa officers from rejecting applications of candidates on the basis of weak family ties. Federal Court clearly ruled family bond and strength of relationship is more important than the number of family members in home country. Visa officers are committing contempt of court.

Please read my post again. I'm not saying what is important and what isn't. I'm saying that he Liberal party very publicly stated its immigration platform up front as part of the election process. So we already know exactly what they are going to do and this work alone will take a long time to implement. Here it is again: https://www.liberal.ca/liberals-unveil-new-plan-for-immigration-focused-on-family-reunification-middle-class-growth/

You have also highly over-simplified the introduction of an appeal process. It would be extremely naive to think that a formal appeal process can be introduced through a simple executive order by the immigration minster. It takes a lot more than that - as we've seen time and time again with any other new policy or process introduced by CIC.

Anyway - you're free to start a petition. I'm just trying to set realistic expectations of what the impact and result will be.

Where did you get this from out of curiosity?

1. If you were banned for 5 years for misrepresentation, you can't enter Canada for those 5 years period.
