Hey all - I wanted to get your thoughts on which is a better option - Basically I have a used car. Do I:

1) Import it in Canada, sell and then buy new car in Canada
OR
2) Sell used car and buy new car in USA and import it to Canada

If your car is good with no repairs and having less than 100k miles then import it as its a trustable car. if not then you can try to sell the car and get it one used here. if you cant sell it during this pandemic for a decent price then no point in selling and just import it.

1)Keep in mind, you cannot sell your car in Canada for 1 year from import. You have to pay duties if you do so.

2) It depends on your car and finance. Selling a car in the current market, you are definitely going to take a hit. And on top of that you have to fully pay off the new car you are planning to buy to import.

So, Like the previous post, if you car is good enough to go for another year or so, keep it as is and import.

Thank you hari and jagan. Are there other things to keep in mind? E.g. Would insurance cost be higher on a US imported cost vs. Canada?

The other issue is when I initially landed via plane, the officer striked off my car from GTF (goods to follow) citing that I can't do that. So is there something I should worry about from that standpoint? or is the import process solely the 72 hour heads up, modifications, etc. - unrelated to GTF?
