Does anyone have any experience with changing employer whilst on implied status? Disregarding the practicalities of it, I'm just wondering if it's possible within IRCC's rules following an open work permit.

On the CIC website it mentions that when on implied status "You must stay in Canada and meet the conditions of your original work permit". This could be interpreted as meaning if you were on an open work permit prior to moving onto implied status, then this would continue (and thus free to move employer) - whereas on a closed permit you wouldn't. Many other sources online seem to imply similar.

However, on a different page on the same website, it mentions that you must keep working for the same employer in this scenario.

It's a question that seems to be asked a lot yet still feels like such a grey area, so wondering if anyone has previous experience with this. Thanks!

Yes, that's how implied status works. Basically it's a continuation of your previous work permit status.

So if you were previously on an open work permit, implied status continues this and you can switch employers.

If you were previously on a closed work permit, this allows you to continue working for that same employer (but does not allow you to switch employers).

The second link was throwing me as it explicitly states for the same employer; but now I'm wondering if that page is related to IEC to IEC transitions specifically.

The second link was throwing me as it explicitly states for the same employer; but now I'm wondering if that page is related to IEC to IEC transitions specifically.
The second link refers specifically to IECs.

Thanks again! I do have one more question following the above clarification if you'd be so kind, as there are also nuances within the IEC program. Working holiday IEC's are classed as open work permits, whereas young professional and international co-op IEC's are closed permits. I fall into the working holiday category - therefore would the fact that I'm technically coming from an open work permit override being under the IEC rules umbrella (as per the link), in the context of changing employer?

Apologies for asking a very similar question - just wanting to ensure it's clear as it seems both rules could contradict each other in this scenario (it's allowed as it's OWP, but also not allowed as it's IEC). Thanks!

On what basis do you have implied status? Did you submit a BOWP before your IEC / WHV expired? The devil is always in the details...

Yes, that's correct. Waiting on the BOWP approval which was applied for before the original IEC expired!
