Sounds about right, btw did you also apply for the MSP during the time while you are waiting?
and thanks for these info, very helpful

Did you apply inland? When you entered Canada, did you enter on a Visitor Visa?

Can you update this thread if you are able to get BC Med? I would like to make sure that I provide the right information.

Thanks!

I am an Ontario resident, and I can speak mostly to the requirements here. I don't see the requirements being too terribly different between the provinces, but always open to learning new things :).

Ontario has some of the strictest eligibility requirements for healthcare and it's easier to get coverage in other provinces. Not all have a waiting period, and some will allow PR applicants to qualify for healthcare. BC's coverage and rules are quite different than Ontario's...

Understood. That's why I have asked if we could have an update if the OP is able to get BC Med.

By all means you can certainly call to ask. I am an Ontario resident, and I can speak mostly to the requirements here. I don't see the requirements being too terribly different between the provinces, but always open to learning new things :).

Hi profiler,

The provinces are VERY different as to requirements for provincial health.

Alberta is one of the most liberal/easiest for a PR applicant to get AHP. All I needed was my marriage certificate and a photocopy of my latest passport stamp. They even back-dated my enrollment to before my CA wife and I were married (date I entered Canada last, per my passport stamp). My AHP card is temporary, dated to expire six months after that passport stamp date, but I can extend it easily by sending in proof I have extended my status.

Once I have PR, I'll get a "permanent" card.

Totally got that, that's why I asked to get an update so I don't provide any wrong information...

One thing I'll add is that NONE of the Alberta Health website help or FAQ's mention this. If you call, they might give you the correct answer, or they might insist you can't have AHP until you have your CoPR or PR card.

If you go to Registries, it's a different story. They know the correct answer, and are very helpful.

I went to the registry in Alberta with my OWP and passport and they gave me a health card no problem
