Hi all,

I know this is an unique case (mine always is) Still waiting for my PR 3 months and still counting after remedical submission.. Meanwhile I submitted my extension application looks like they are working on Jul12 applications. I understand that i will move to an "implied status" but what happens my health care card. Is there a way i could renew it with the proof that i applied for an extension?. It's a long shot.. Just thought i'd check with the forum.

Many Thanks.

Where do you live? If you live in BC, you are eligible for Medical Insurance when you application for PR has been accepted by CIC.

You may be in luck, this is from the Alberta Health Insurance:

In order to be eligible for AHCIP coverage you must have a valid Canada entry document or a letter from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada indicating a “positive first decision” has been made regarding your application for permanent residency.

If you receive a “positive first decision” letter from IRCC with respect to your permanent residency application, forward a copy of the document along with your completed application for AHCIP coverage and other required documentation to Alberta Health.

Your AHCIP coverage may be reinstated to the date of the “positive first decision” letter but not earlier.
If your Canada entry document is due to expire and you have not yet received this letter, you may be eligible for a one time only temporary extension of your AHCIP coverage. However, we recommend you apply for an extension of your prior permit during the waiting period to avoid a lapse of coverage.

Thank you so much. I'll go to the registry office tomorrow and enquire about this in person.

"Positive First Decision"

Sounds like OHIP in Ontario. You must wait for either:
- AIP (then 90 days after you apply)
OR
- If you are working, you can use that to gain access to medical..

I think when CIC started to process the PR application. You can check with BC Med.

So when they start processing my application, i can start using my partner's msp?
Sounds a great news to me, no need to buy expensive travel insurance anymore but any idea how to apply ?

I am wondering if that's the case. Looks like you probably have to wait for AIP:

From BC Medical's Eligibility site (http://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/health-drug-coverage/msp/bc-residents/eligibility-and-enrolment/are-you-eligible):
An individual must be a resident of B.C. in order to qualify for medical coverage under MSP. A resident is a person who meets all of the following conditions:

- must be a citizen of Canada or be lawfully admitted to Canada for permanent residence;
- must make his or her home in B.C.; and
- must be physically present in B.C. at least six months in a calendar year, or a shorter prescribed period.

That sounds an awful lot like Acceptance In Principle (AIP). By all means, call and find out. Please advise if that is wrong.

Best of luck!

You cannot use your partner's msp. You need to apply your own plan. Don't forget you need to meet the resident requirement. Here is the link to reg.
like profiler said, there is no way i can meet the requirement since the first point is
must be a citizen of Canada or be lawfully admitted to Canada for permanent residence....

You are in Canada now, did you not enter Canada lawfully? If you are being sponsor and your sponsor pass the eligibility stage then you can apply for MSP. You can read the detail from here http://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/health/health-drug-coverage/msp/bc-residents/eligibility-and-enrolment/are-you-eligible/applicants-for-permanent-resident-status

By all means you can certainly call to ask. I am an Ontario resident, and I can speak mostly to the requirements here. I don't see the requirements being too terribly different between the provinces, but always open to learning new things :).

Passing eligibility means you have AIP...
