Hello All
My mother has been visiting me for the last 6 months since July 2017. A month before she was scheduled to leave we applied for an extension of stay. In the letter of explanation we requested an extension until January 19, 2018. We have not received a response yet however would like to know whether my mother should stay in Canada with me until we here back from the CIC or if she should leave on the 19th of January as planned even before she hears back from the CIC. If she decides to leave what documentation can she carry with her as proof that she had applied for an extension? I just don’t want her to be penalized or recorded for overstaying.

Thank you All. I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi

She can leave whenever she wants. She doesn't need to carry proof of anything.

She can stay on implied status (you should have some proof of the date the application was submitted, but IRCC will also have the same information). If she leaves, her "implied status" is no longer valid, and she would have to wait for the new permit to return. Either way, it is not a problem...
