Implied Status after submitting application

I currently have a full-time job in Toronto and my work permit is expiring on May 21. I plan on submitting my Spousal Sponsorship Application (or Express Entry if I make the cut in the next draw) before the end of April along with the application to extend my work permit.

If I understand correctly... Once I submit my application for the work permit, I will have "implied status" which allows me to keep working in Canada even after my current work permit expires. But if I leave Canada during the processing period, I will lose this status.

So here is the question... I need to go back home for 2 weeks starting from May 1 to May 15. Will I lose my implied status because of this even tho my work permit hasn't expired when I enter Canada again?

No - Implied status has not kicked in by the time you have returned. As your WP is still valid at the time of your return, you will still have worker status.

If you have submitted an application for an extension or new WP before your current WP expires, you fall under implied status on the expiry of the current WP, and can remain under implied status until you get the results of the WP application.

Note however, the proximity of the expiry of your WP upon your return, so expect CBSA will check and ask what your plans are after the expiry of the WP (ascertaining if you are a potential risk of contravening the limits of your WP). If you have a pending WP application and they see it upon your return, then there should be no more added scrutiny on your re-entry. Note: It is strongly recommended that, at the POE, they present documentary proof (copy of their application, copy of the fee payment receipt, etc) of their application for an extension as a visitor, student or worker.p

Just a side note, if you are from a visa-waiver country, you could also apply at the border for a new WP. Not sure if this it works when you have an application with CIC
