Hi,
I was granted Canadian PR in 2014 and made a validation trip as well. However, since then I haven't visited Canada. PR cards will expire in 2019 and I have no intentions to move there permanently.

Is it necessary to renounce Canadian PR or will it automatically invalid on PR card expiry? Is there any impact if I don't renounce PR for future visit to Canada?

Thanks in advance for your advice.

If you have no intention of living in Canada, you might be better off formally renouncing your PR status. It does not automatically expire, unlike the PR card. If you ever want to visit in the future, you would not be able to obtain a visa or an eTA while you still hold PR status.

Is there any way to apply online to renounce PR status? I found below link and it seems like all these documents need to be mail to Canadian embassy in my city (Sydney)?

I just checked my PR card and it's valid till Jan 2021. Does it mean if I plan to travel anytime before Jan 2021, I can still travel on current PR card and no need for ETA / visit visa?
However, if I plan to travel after Jan 2021 then I will have to FIRST renounce PR and then apply ETA for traveling.
If my above understanding is correct, I think its better to NOT renounce PR until Jan 2021.

Your thoughts?

Exactly correct. However, bear in mind that your compliance with the Residency Obligations will factor in each entry. Lots of posts about that on the forum so I won't elaborate.
