Hi guys, I have been searching for an answer to this question. Let me first explain my situation, I enrolled in Algonquin College as an international student for a 2 year academic program, in the letter of acceptance they stated that the duration of the program is 2 years, they also stated that the program will begin on January 9, 2017 and will finish on June 30, 2018, that is actually 18 months in total to get a 2 year Diploma.

Now, I am not clear how this will impact the length of the work permit, I plan to apply for a PGWP, will I get a 3 year PGWP or only 18 months?

Hello again, this is to confirm that I contacted CIC via twitter and got a clear answer that will help a lot of people with the same doubt.

This is what they replied to me textually:

1/2 "The validity of the PGWP is determined by the program length, not how long you personally took to complete it"

2/2 "a two-year program completed in an accelerated way would make you eligible for a three-year work permit"

So, in my case, a two-year program completed in 18 months will make me eligible for a three-year work permit taking into consideration the expiry date of the passport.
