Impact of ECA on job opportunities in Canada

Hello everyone,

Would anyone be able to give a certain answer about whether or not ECA results (or incase ECA is not done for a dependant) impacts job opportunities in Canada for people carrying 4-5 years work experience in their current countries? Have read a few posts around this but with contradicting answers.

nope as far as i know ECA is just for immigration etc , Canadian companies do not acknowledge foreign degrees.

Recognition of foreign work experience is more prevalent than recognition of foreign credentials (Chart A). One possible reason could be that work experience is mostly assessed by employers, while credentials are assessed by work-related organizations and educational institutions as well as employers. According to the LSIC, 83% of new immigrants with their work experience recognized, received this recognition from an employer. One-half of newcomers who had their credentials recognized obtained this recognition through an educational institution, 30% from an employer, and 20% from a work-related organization.

Of course they do.

Having a relevant degree however is different to having a valid qualification to work in the country you are in.

For example if you have a degree in communications or business, employers would acknowledge that. If you work in a regulated industry (medicine, engineering), your degree would not be enough and you will also need Canadian recognition/qualification to work.

My Brother applied for Managerial Position 3 months after he landed in 2016 and he was selected provided the Background check is also Positive, as it has to be verified from Indian Universities and govt. bodies & being a CA n a CPA there was more then one degree which had to be verified, So it was taking longer and was a hindrance in joining.

So he shared his ECA which was accepted by the HR and the 3rd party Background check company.

I dont think, you will be wasting money by getting the ECA...

Not to mention, for any employment opportunities with the federal government, the ECA is REQUIRED for non-Canadian education.
