start from cic.gc.ca with simplified application plus fee $550. having a lawyer will only help you on effectiveness of the applications, to be not returned but if you could do it by yourself its very simple. The decision is yours. Good luck.

Just be aware of the delays for processing from India. If you apply today, you can expect to be in Canada in 2015 or later.

Hi,
As you are an educated person with a straight case, so I think you should apply on your own, but do check your points and other requirements. Your points should be OK as you are a software engineer. Apply only if you meet all the requirements, otherwise it is only a lose of money and time. If you will apply from another country, that will be expensive. Choice is yours; more wait or more money. If you are not certified by now, pl try during wait time.

Good luck,

Hi, what you need to do is to take one of the many sites that have your self assessment to understand how many points you have compared to what is required for immigration. Then download the forms from the cic site and make your own application. Frankly using a lawyer or service is not of any use if you can speak english, are well educated and have confidence in yourself. They only make you more handicapped and dependent rather than self sufficient.

However, be prepared for a long wait if you are not getting sponsored, have a work offer or business class. If you are planning to come via the skilled worker as a normal chap, it will take you about 6 years and many things change by then. However, what the heck, apply and then forget about it and one fine day, when it does arrive, you take your choice then. We have been waiting 5 years now and it is slowly coming to the final stages. My friend applied for Australia and they got it in about 9 months. So unless you have a real case for canada, try Australia and once you get Australian citizenship, you can take a call on whether you still want to go to canada then and so rather than sitting 5 years in India waiting, spend those more productively in Sydney.

cheers,
hardrock

Try your luck with work permit first, if you get one apply it from within Canada. Then you can apply at Buffalo, USA CHC, which is fastest and has highest quota.

There is a backlog of around 145000 files in New Delhi Consulate against the quota of around 9500 files per year. Thus, it is likely that it will take 16 years from now for new files.

Canadian employers are conservative, and will not consider your Indian job experience and you will start almost as a fresher. However, after 3 to 4 years of Canadian work experience you will have an excellent potential in IT/Software sector.

CIC is also changing their policy so watch for that and take careful decision. Evaluate all the possibility and take informed decision.

Good luck
