Hi all,

I immigrated from India a few years back and I am a Canadian citizen now and my mother would soon be a PR after she lands in a few months.
My sister is settled in India with her husband and her kid of almost 2 years.
Sister wants to come to Canada as a student while her husband would stay back. She wants to bring her child with her while she is here. I would be supporting her with the accommodation while my mom can support the child while she studies.
She is working in India as a software tester with 4-5 years of work experience and she is 30 years old.
What are her chances of coming to Canada with her child? The truth is that she wants to immigrate to Canada permanently and we were initially looking to apply a PR for her but her express entry scores are not sufficient considering that her education is Bachelors's in IT and that she does not have a Canadian degree or a Canadian work experience. We are still looking at other options like the Atlantic immigration pilot but all those programs seem a long shot.

She can get approved with her child, as long as she applies for a program that shows logical academic and professional progression and has enough personal funds to cover her tuition and living expenses.

For someone with a Bachelors and IT work experience, I would advise she applies for a Master's degree at a public university.

thanks. what if she tries for a business analyst or something in cybersecurity. she would probably go for a 2 year college course instead of a university course

A Master's is a better option since she already has strong ties to Canada. But it's ultimately up to her.

Whatever she picks should show a progression in the level of her study and be related to her previous studies and work experience.

Don't worry, majority of the people study in Canada for the sake of becoming a PR. Just make sure your sister creates a strong profile by choosing the right program and one which shows career progression and quick ROI on money invested. Also don't forget to create a good story on what she plans to do once she returns to India. Do not mention anywhere you are doing it for PR.
