Immigration : Primary vs Dependent PR + Job Questions

Hi everyone,

I have searched a few places for an answer to these questions, so if anyone can help me with a response it would be super useful.
I am an out-land applicant and we have declared both husband and wife will be immigrating to Canada.
  1. My wife is the primary applicant in our EE profile(Higher IELTS Score). However, only the primary applicant gets a job application number. Can I apply as a dependent for jobs in Canada before getting a PR to Canada?
  2. Once an application for PR gets approved, is the applicant restricted in Canada to only work in jobs based on the NOC code mentioned in the EE profile? Will employers reference the PR application to determine which NOC code was declared? (My wife has experience in 2 NOC codes and may choose to work in a job which is not the primary NOC code in the EE application)
  3. If and when we go through the entire PR process, will all dependents get a PR to Canada together? Or does only the primary get it and the dependents need to land and apply separately or get a Open work permit?
  4. Staggered immigration - If PR is approved, can only the dependent land in Canada before the primary applicant?
  5. Can we create two separate EE profiles and swap primary applicants? We have two different NOC codes?

1. Yes, you can apply for jobs. However you need both a job offer and approved LMIA from the employer in order to get a work permit. The chances of finding an employer willing to go through the LMIA process is very low.
2. No restrictions.
3. You will all be issued COPRs and come to Canada together as long as you are listed as an accompanying dependent.
4. No. Primary applicant MUST land first.
5. Yes.

1. Yes, you can apply for jobs. However you need both a job offer and approved LMIA from the employer in order to get a work permit. The chances of finding an employer willing to go through the LMIA process is very low.
2. No restrictions.
3. You will all be issued COPRs and come to Canada together as long as you are listed as an accompanying dependent.

For question 1 : Hypothetically speaking, If I apply as an external candidate without getting a PR via LinkedIn or Indeed and manage to get a job, will it not add points to my profile? I can inform the employer during the interview process that offering me a job will give me the required points to be eligible to qualify for the EE cutoff. The only issue being the processing time to get the COPR before I can actually join. Is this a realistic or likely scenario to consider?

No - not realistic at all unfortunately.

No - a simple job offer will not add points. Your employer needs to obtain an approved LMIA in order for this to add points to your profile. The LMIA process takes 4-6 for the employer to complete and requires a signficant amount of paperwork including advertising the job to prove no Canadian could be found for the role. It's generally next to impossible to find employers willing to go through the LMIA process. And you can't get the extra 50 points without an approved LMIA.
