Immigration possible?

I was looking to apply for immigration to Canada in 2009. But a lawyer I met replied in negative saying I am not eligible.

I Did a 1 year PG course from George Brown College (considered valid as per CIC) in 2005
Worked for 1 month on the PG work permit valid for one year
Did another 1 year PG course from George Brown College in 2009.

Now I am not eligible to work under any circumstances in Canada unless I am under work visa which is tough in the current scenario. This is proving to be a handicap in my immigration process. So I wont be able to finish my one year of work which is so significant in adding points to my immigration process.

I have stayed in canada for a total of 3 years and Also have 15 years of education apart from education in Canada. My passport has 2 study permits and a work permit on it from Canada.

I was also wondering if things like Credit card, Employers recommendation letters and driving license help.

You can try to find an immigration class that suits you on the CIC website here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/index.asp

Especially look into the provincial nominee programs for the province where you have been. If you can get a job offer, that is usually enough to immigrate under a provincial nominee program.

I am already looking into the Provincial Nominee option but there are not really many companies looking to sponsor employees especially in the field of Market Research. Not to mention the tight job scenario right now ( I returned from Toronto only last month)

Since I made of mistake of not completing the one year of work experience, I cannot apply in the 'Canadian Experience Class' section.

Leaving only the Skilled Workers and proffessionals class open to me. And with a cap on applications under this class things look really gloomy.

Or Quebec skilled worker but it's hard to get enough points without French.

Do I get the benifit of being in Canada for 3 years and for holding drivers license, bank accounts and other Sin number? This might help me try for Skilled worker class if my file gets the benifit.

Also with two different 1 year Post graduate certificate courses from Toronto, I have a total of 17 years of full time education.(12+3(graduation)+2(PGD)). How will my points be counted under Adaptability and education?

As far as I know, there is no points system that gives you points for holding a drivers license, SIN number and bank accounts. There may be some points for having lived, worked or studied in Canada.
