Hi everyone!
I am applying for a study permit in canada, that will be a 9 month course. The program starts on january 7th so i dont have much time for mistakes so came here to ask and make sure. I am from Portugal, and while looking at the requirements, i noticed some countries require you to make a medical exam. You may see the list here:
(google : "List of countries/territories for which an Immigration Medical Exam (IME)"), srry cant post links..
As you can see Portugal is on the list of countries needed.. however i live in madeira and have been living here for the past 2 years (i studied in the mainland for university before that, but lived here the entire time before university) and just took a 3 month holiday to south africa to visit my sister.
From what i understand, only if i had lived for 6 consecutive months on another country/region would I need to check the medical exam chart. As i only was in south africa for 3 months and haven't studied in the mainland for over 2 years they don't cout, right?
Also, i was wondering if i needed some paper stating that even though I am from Portugal, I live in Madeira? Would the immigration officer know from my address that i am from that zone? Should i point it out in any way? like i said above, i dont have much time to get things done (christmas and new years holidays dont help), so i dont want the process to be delayed by a missing medical exam that i dont need. (not to mention i would need to fly all the way to the mainland to do the exam if it came to that)
Another question is what if i dont get an answer untill the program starts? Can I go to canada before i get the study permit? I know i dont need a visa to visit canada. But would i be able to start the course before having the papers? Any suggestions on this?
Thanks for any reply, i am really nervous about all this and want to make sure i got everything under control.
