I realize this might be oversimplified for this post, but like the title says, I’m a dual citizen. My partner and I want to move to Canada with her two teenagers in the next year or so. We started working with a licensed consultant to get the ball rolling. I mentioned in our initial call that I’m a dual citizen and just need my proof of citizenship so I could sponsor my family, but he kept saying I was going to start with my PR application.

Is this normal? It felt like he wasn’t listening to what I was saying. Do consultants help with getting proof of citizenship as well, or could this be a case where they do so many PR entries that he just blipped over it?

It's normal if the consultant is an idiot. Which is, unfortunately, not rare.

Apply for your proof of citizenship and start preparing the spousal sponsorship files in parallel. You can do it better on your own, cheaper. It's not that difficult.

What proof of citizenship do you have now? Were you born in Canada? If born in Canada, your birth certificate is likely enough. (You'll need to apply for a passport though, except possibly if coming from USA)
