guys, please check the above link

they would need to do something sharpish!

Although this move if Implemented.. could be Boon for some & Bane for many .....

"We are launching a pilot project that will allow provinces and territories to 'mine the backlog' — in other words, to review the applications in the backlog and nominate those applicants they think their economies need now. We are also informing some applicants stuck in the federal skilled workers backlog about possible opportunities under the provincial nominee program," he said.

one way or other they will piss off a lot of people, not to mention that they are opening themselves up to getting sued by a lot of people if they go ahead and just legislate the backlog away. plus new zealand only had about a years worth of applicants who were rejected/legislated away. they didnt have to put their lives on hold. in this case people have been waiting for this for close to a decade. dont understand how minister kenney will be able to justify that

This could be another way of tackling the issue. If we look from a positive point of view. They are trying to minimize the backlog from a different angle/method.
The statement below highlights there thoughts or intentions...?

"We are also informing some applicants stuck in the federal skilled workers backlog about possible opportunities under the provincial nominee program."

If you check on the post 26/6 thread, many of us have been discussing it there also:

WHAT DOES IT MEAN 'ERASE". Do they Reject all these application. R they MAD. These people are waiting since long. It is not fair, for immigration application u spent money and time both. It is like playing with hopes. I M A STRONG PROTESTANT OF THIS DECISION.

It's unfair for the applicants who waited 7-8 years , now as expressed by the honourable minister that they are too old or There skills are outdated . Hope he doesn't go for this option

New Zealand did in 2003.

PMM Sir,

Don't you think this is absolutely unfair with backlog applicants. If there are too many applications in backlog, they can hire more staff to get rid of it.

Seems like they don't want to do that.

Hey People,

I do not know much about the backlog set (2004), but if there is an option available to people affected by the Minister's comment, it shall be to network and consider a class action.

Canada is a wonderful country (so I heard) but their greatest shortcoming and disgrace is their immigration which is huge laughing stuff.

I strongly feel a class action will be a good option.

Well the problem is that Canada only takes about 50K skilled workers per year (That doesn't count PNP or Quebec) So the Minister published the "lists" of jobs needed in Canada and basically only those applicants are being processed, plus a few from the backlog. Prior to the lists, all you had to do was have 1 years experience in an A, B or O NOC and get 67 points to be eligible to apply with no language test. So everyone applied. Now what is the point giving visas to persons whose background/experience won't result in a job in Canada. It doesn't help the Canadian economy nor does it help the emigrant with no marketable skills who will only be able to obtain survival jobs. It doesn't do him/her any good. So if only the backlog was processed, emigrants whose skills are needed now, applications wouldn't be looked at for 8/10 years.
