Firstladyking, the Air21 picked up my documents January 15, 2013, until now I did not yet receive AOR as mentioned here in this column as acknowledgement of receipt and also mentioned here in the column that receiving AOR does not mean of starting of processing of papers. How come I did not yet receive AOR? Thank you.

Hi just want to know some more acronyms if you don't mind....

thank you....

VO- Visa Office

Sorry I don't know what OCC is.

I am a gardener/care worker by trade. Can you tell me how much it would cost to get a visa from the UK to Canada and how long would I have to wait. 2) What would be the situation if I married in Canada while on holiday, could I apply for citizenship over there?

Regards, Mick

1) If you are a UK citizen, you do not need a visa to visit Canada but you can only stay for up to 6 months and you can't work. In order to work, you need to find an employer and your employer needs to apply for a labour market opinion for you, showing that they looked for qualified people in Canada and found nobody who wants the job. If they are successful, you can use this labour market opinion to apply for a work permit. It will cost you $150. Finding the employer who will apply for your LMO might be hard though.

2) If you marry a Canadian citizen or permanent resident while in Canada on holiday, you do not gain the right to apply for citizenship, rather, your spouse must sponsor you for Canadian PR first. It will take several months or a year to get the PR. If you apply inland (use the forms for person living in Canada) you would automatically apply to extend your visitor status as well as an open work permit which you may get in about 6 months. You would have to continue to live in Canada until your application has been processed. If you apply outland (use the forms stating you are living in the UK) you do not have to stay in Canada during the processing time but you also can not get an open work permit. However, you may get the PR itself faster. There is a new rule with spousal sponsorship and that is a 2 year probation period. That is, 2 years after getting your PR, immigration will look at if you are still married. If you have left your spouse at that point, they may revoke your PR. You will need to live in Canada for 3 years as a PR before you can apply for citizenship.

Hi guys! I hope you can help me.

I did not receive an AOR from CE-Riyadh so I sent them an inquiry email after the 6 weeks had lapsed (since Aramex informed me that my documents and passport were delivered to them on 12 Feb 2013). Thankfully, the Visa Section replied that my application is still in process. I am working here in Jeddah and I have a job offer in Alberta as Janitorial Services Supervisor. My LMO is expiring on 05 May 2013, what happens then?

Best regards,

thanks super helpful!

Thank you for good information
