I know you've already been told this, but I'll say it again. You definitely want to get married before sending in your application. You can sponsor a wife or husband. You can't sponsor a fiancée.

I need to add my experience to that thread, but I haven't had time yet. My quick advise is to make sure you have at least paid the fees before crossing the border to prove that you are applying.
lonelycanadianwifey, I guess you're right about the HIV, but I wonder about that lately since people have been charged with manslaughter or something similar for spreading it. Anyway, I'm assuming there's little chance of HIV being involved here.
