Hello,

My wife and I got our paperwork and visa for our first landing in Quebec, and we just found out she's pregnant :D

We know that if we have a health card giving birth and pregnancy checkups are covered, however the health card take 120 days to be delivered, we want to know if there is an exception for pregnant women in receiving the health card so she can have immediate checkups and give birth.

Our visas expires in march 16 2015, and the baby is planned in march 10 2015, we would like to enter Canada in the beginnings of february 2015 by car, seems a little bit crazy :p but we still have things to handle in Mexico.

Also any good tips about my trip would be accepted :)

Thanks!

You better give the Quebec Health Services a phone call so that they can clarify things.

However, I doubt that they will make an exception for a person who is currently pregnant as it contradicts with their policy for a mandatory waiting period.

In the meantime, you may get a private insurance that will cover pregnancy related emergencies during this waiting period.

Read this article and may be it will help you find a solution - Pregnancy Insurance Guide

Cheers ;)

Quebec actually has exceptions on the waiting period for pregnancy and childbirth, see here:

http://www.ramq.gouv.qc.ca/en/immigrants-foreign-workers-students/health-insurance/Pages/healthcare-covered.aspx

Pending receipt of your card, be sure to keep the letter indicating that you are subject to a waiting period. This is because, given the situation, some healthcare services may be available free of charge to persons waiting for their coverage to take effect, for instance:
services needed by victims of conjugal or domestic violence or of sexual assault;
services related to pregnancy, child birth or termination of pregnancy;
services needed by people suffering from infectious diseases that have an impact on public health.
