This is definitely a grey area. CIC really needs to provide more details explaining the question. The Travel History form for India and Pakistan Country Specific forms clearly asks for Entry/Exit for each travel which makes it clear. BUT Question 8 of IMM5669 does not explicitly ask for this. I mean what if a business executive travels frequently out of the country for meetings? He is still employed but travelling at the same time. You would have some drastic overlaps. Same thing goes if you are a student and travelled for a student project or internship term. You are still a student at that time but was travelling for that purpose.
Also, the form only allows you to only enter Year and Month. So you could potentially have parallel events occur during the same month in a situation where you are working and travelling within the same month. Also, note that in the last column it asks Name of Company, Employer, School, Facility, as applicable. This implies to me that the intent is to capture work history, unemployment, education, and long term travel etc. For example you travelled to another country for volunteer work..then yes this should be put down but short vacation's would be questionable.
Unfortunately, this question is subject to personal interpretation. If Question 8 of IMM5669 actually required you to enter Entry/Exit for overlapping time periods then why in the world would they even create the Country Specific Entry/Exit Travel History form since this information would have to be provided in Question 8. If they wanted such specific information they would include a day field as well.
The two questions serve different purposes in my opinion.
Tell me about it, The Schedule A provided by CIC-M has since Age 18 or last 10 years so we filled like
( Since we applied in 2008 )
1998-2008 = Working
2008-Current = Retire
Apparently, then the file transferred to New Delhi, they wanted details since 1970s ( basically gaps between school and jobs >>>>2008 )
So I am like, they never asked Travel History from us and my folks have 5+3 passports and these guys asking me since 1970 - can I just put 1970-2008 ( Working own business )?
I was so tensed as I thought they might see it as misrepresentation so I put everything in the following format
This is just 1 sheet, there were 5 sheets altogether for folks

Then I order GCMS notes, see comment - PA has significant travel history to US, Canada. Even though PA has not lived for more than 6 months in US, need FBI clearance, ( For Canada, they have lived here for more than 6 months on 2 occasions so that we mentioned in the IMM008 and they simply did RCMP Trace )
I had FBI handy as I knew they would ask
Then during final review, the VO officer gets confused and write comment that
" PA traveled to US for work, please ask PA nature of work ( Found this through GCMS ). Need more details from age 18"
I am like can't they see I wrote travel to US was vacation and I already have given them details since 1970's like they asked so I prepare another Excel Sheet since Age 18 now and I even a freaking part time job in there - express $130 courier to India
I order GCMS notes again, this time the comment says "
it seems PA has included travel and work together", satisfied with file, PCC clear, Eligibility, Medical, Security/Criminality pass, no concern issue visa"
So I am not sure if they are seeking that info or not, from above comments
But regardless, Travel History has be filled out in travel history form ( somehow they never asked us that so I forced combined)
