Hi guys,

First post, hoping I'm not violating forum rules.

My wife and I are filling out our PR application. I'm the sponsor living in Canada, she is in India. Ours is what you would call an arranged marriage, but we have been in long distance relationship since our parents got us engaged (we liked each other too) in Feb 2013. We got married in Feb 2014. I visited her during our relationship, but she didn't as applying for Visa for her was a complicated process, and she didn't want to come alone all they way here.

Wondering what I should say for Question 25 - Have you visited your sponsor?

I have this as the answer, which is the truth:

No, I did not visit the sponsor during our relationship. It is prohibited in our culture to have the girl visit the boy’s side without being married. This was a primary reason for not visiting. Furthermore, I did not have the temporary resident visa required to visit him in Canada, being an Indian Citizen. Since I did not want to visit alone, and visiting together with family members would be very tedious (visa-wise) and expensive, I did not visit the sponsor.

Will this be okay, or is it a red flag of any kind?

If this is the cultural standard, the local Visa Office will be aware of this and it should not be a problem.

Hi ydj_dil,

You are same as mine, i was married in Feb 2014 too, my spouse is working and has full time job in India, So she answer that question like that "my work didn't allow me to take holidays. Also, I was not sure if i would get visitor visa".

Hope that helps....cheers

Thanks much guys!

Congrats on your recent wedding singla2856! Indeed, that is also another reason for us. My wife is working too, in IT, and her boss would explode if she asked for vacation time. Good luck on your application!

Singla2856, if I may ask, how are you answering Question 27 - Have you lived together? I take it, since yours is also arranged marriage, and you got married recently, you guys did not live together. I'm planning on simply saying it as it is: Since we only got married recently, we did not start living together yet.

But, I'm not sure if its looks good to say that.

Any advice from successful "arranged marriage" veteran applicants?

This question is not only about visits before marriage , also visits anytime ; mine is also arranged marriage , i wrote that she didn't apply visitor visa because there is max rate of rejection , and she doesn't want to jeopodize PR application if it get rejected for any reasons. I donot think giving culture reason would be good , they might think why not after marriage...

Thanks Jaya, I did not think in that angle that they might wonder why she hasn't visited after marriage. I only just got married about a month ago. Your advice is helpful. Perhaps I will downplay the cultural aspect, though that was the reason why she didn't want to visit - her parents said no to spend the christmas break with me in Canada. But yes, we were also afraid of tourist visa issues.

Hey all,

Somewhat similar situation here.
Got married a month ago and lived together for a month.
So mentioned that. and mentioned my wife is currently living with her parents and her inlaws.
Mentioned all four names.

Also about the visits, I wrote it was too expensive to visit Canada.
