There is a section on form IMM5490 where my wife has to describe the development of the relationship. Then further down on the same form, it asks to write on a separate sheet of paper to provide additional details that would help to prove our relationship is genuine and continuing. Isn't that basically asking her to write the same thing twice? She more or less has written a history of the relationship from its beginning to the present under the development of the relationship section already. Also, for several sections on her form, it asks for photos, tickets, etc. and I am already submitting those with my documents. Does she still need to submit those?

If she has nothing more to say, you don't need to attache any sheet. But for most people the space is not enough so they attach extra sheet. My wife put 3 pages to detail the our relationship history.

For other documents if they are only your spouse (country specific checklist) it is only her to provide only. No need to double the doucment, normaly on Sponsor side I don't see much document requested, only photocopy of PR card, PP copy if Canadian citizen, Tax retrun option C and employer letter etc.. Normaly these document are not asked on the sponsored side.

Check carefully yours and hers checklist

Thanks for your reply. How current does the letter from my employer need to be? I originally was going to start the process in May, 2012, so I got a letter from my employer in May. Now that it's February, do I need a new letter?

Hi JimE2013

As I recently filed our apps to sponsor my common law spouse what we did is write on those boxes the reference to the extra document where we told our story! ie: Please read attached document : "Development of our relationship" or Please see attached timeline photos of our relationship
You Dont have to be too technical. As much as you think about it the more mixed up you get. Just write everything you want to write on Word documents and in the apps just make their reference!

Good luck
