Sponsorship of wife (Husband living in Canada under PR)

Dear all,

Please inform if I am wrong. The form IMM1344 has been updated wrongly by the CIC.

Problem: In the form the principal applicant is my wife whom I am sponsoring and in the sponsor details my (permanent resident of Canada) details must be written. After doing so I have noticed in the page 2 at the top the blank box applicant name and date of birth appears as my (sponsor's) name. Surprisingly enough, the applicant is my wife. Therefore, the form IMM1344 has got an error.

IMM1344 is available here. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

The form 1344 has been updated in Feb,2012. Let me know if I am wrong.I want to fill in the form on the internet as I have to send it by email to my wife. What can I do in this circumstances?

Many thanks

How did CIC update the form and put your name in there? Manually? Not sure I understand how you know they updated it incorrectly.

He's correct. If you open http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM1344E.PDF and enter the sponsor's name and DOB in the correct place on page 1, the sponsor's name and DOB show up automatically in the box at the top of every subsequent page.

However, if I'm reading it right, this is the "Application to Sponsor". On this form YOU are applying be a sponsor, your wife is not applying for anything with this form. So it would be correct for your name/DOB to show up where it says "Applicant Name" and "Date of Birth"

This is what I think is happening, please tell me if I'm wrong.

You're right. The sponsorship forms is all about the sponsor. So the sponsors name is to appear on the subsequent pages. It did on my application form and I had no problem getting approved.

Dear Isometry,

thanks for your reply. Before feb, 2012 the form IMM1344 did not have any box like that. The form has been updated last month. And this is an programming error certainly. It may be CIC will change that once they receive email or complain. The applicant is always my wife(the person whom I am sponsoring). If my name appears then the box must be sponsor not the applicant.

Anyway, I am going to fill in by hand and in the applicant section I will type my wife's details. How is that idea? Many thanks.

No. For the purposes of sponsoring, YOU are the applicant, LEAVE IT THAT WAY.

Yes, I agree, I don't think this is a mistake because the sponsor is applying to sponsor in that form, so they are for that purpose the applicant.

I don't think you should change it. If it is an error in the way the form works then CIC will no doubt realise it and I don't think it will prejudice your application in any way.

there is nothing wrong with the form, CIC did change some rules about sponsor around Feb 2012 and they just made announcement recently if you take a close look at the official website.
This form is for sponsor, of course you're the applicant on this form....
For God's sake, don't change anything

The IMM1344 form that I am using shows IMM1344 (07-2011)E at the bottom left corner of each page, but I don't see anything with a name on each page.

This begs the question, how do I know if I am using the most up-to-date forms? What if I were to use an out-dated form? Would my application be refused???

Dear FS,
Please use the updated form if you haven't submitted your case yet. I had the same problem like you. The new version of the forms are available here.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/fc.asp

The form IMM0008 has been updated too.

Thanks for the heads up.

What if someone submitted their applications with out-dated forms? Would the application be refused?

The previous versions of the forms are accepted until July this year.

This is what am worrying also bec. we sent out-dated forms specifically IMM's 0008 and 1344. Will CIC notify us or send the application back to us?

I thought the previous versions were accepted by March 30th this year? Was it another form with March 30th deadline?
