IMM008, Question 10 - What to put for "to" date if you're not intending on leaving?

So, I'm filling out IMM008 with my spouse, and we're having trouble figuring out what to put for the "Current country of residence" To Date. She's currently residing in Canada. She's not making any plans to leave - she'll hopefully be going from visitor status right into implied status waiting for our application, etc.

What I want to put in that "to" field is "Forever or until it isn't legal to stay", but there's no room for that. ;) Should we put today's date? The date we send the application? The last day of her visitor visa? Etc.

Check the guide, whether you want to apply for inland or outland sponsorship application.

When I filled mine I used the date given on my Visitor Record, even when I asked for an extension after sending my Sponsorship Package.

And she will only get an Implied status if an Open Work Permit is asked on the same Sponsorship application and she has a valid status when the application begins to be processed.

I would recommend from my own experience to request an extension to the Visitor Record before it expires, to ensure a valid status when the application begins to be processed. In my case, I entered Canada at the end of December 2020, I was granted a Visitor Record for 6 months. On February 4, 2020 we sent the Sponsorship application package with the OWP. In March 2020 I applied online for an extension of my Visitor Record and it was granted to me in June 2020. We only received the AOR the first week of August and the work permit just appears as In process in my ECAS account. If I had not requested the extension of my Visitor Record, my status in Canada would have expired in June and I would be inadmissible for the OWP because I would not have Implied Status.
