I just wanted to check with others about the use of the word "dependent" for IMM008.

I (Canadian born citizen) am sponsoring my (US born) husband. We have two kids (22 months and 6 months) 1 has his proof of citizenship and the 6 month old is waiting for his (it takes approximately 10 months or at least that is what we were told).

Could someone tell me if my husband should list me and our two kids as dependents? The guide says :You must list all family members in your application for permanent residence, whether they are accompanying you to Canada or not. Not sure what to do.

Thanks in advance!

They will get listed, on the appropriate form. But they are not listed as dependents being sponsored that require examination. Check your 'regional guide' (specific to US) as I believe citizen dependents is a topic that is covered there.

If they are not Canadian citizens, then they are dependants for your husband lists with his application. If they already Canadian citizens, they are your dependants in the documentation as no need for immigration.

This is explained on the actual IMM0008 form itself, directly under the "Dependents" section where it says:

You must include your spouse or common-law partner, if applicable, and all of your dependent children, and those of your spouse or common-law partner, who are not already permanent residents or citizens of Canada.

The only place the children will be listed is on IMM5406, Additional Family Information, and on IMM5481, Sponsorship Evaluation.
