Hello,

My common law partner and I have completed this IMM5710 PDF document, validated it and are now trying to upload it to our IRCC questionnaire. We are experiencing an issue when we save the document and try to open it again we have that message "Please wait....if this message is not eventually replaced by the proper contents of this document, your PDF viewer may not be able to display this type of document..." it goes on.

We have been able to view and input our information into this document by just downloading it, however our worry is when we try upload document again it is not going to be viewable for the IRCC Officer.

Has anyone come across this before or know a workaround?

We are thinking of printing it, scanning it and uploading it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Thank you Bs65.

We completed/downloaded the form successfully. We saved it and as we were getting ready to upload it to the document checklist, it shows as "Please wait..." again. So, we are afraid that this will be an issue.

You can fix this permanently by flattening the PDF file and then it will work and print as a normal, open in any PDF viewer, etc. This happens because Immigration Canada uses a deprecated Adobe product called XFA to make their forms.

It's caused a lot of headaches for people who don't use Adobe products. As a result, XFA has been removed from future standards, but government is a slow moving machine and because Canada included dynamic fields and other "features" in their forms, it's going to take a while.

You can convert the form from XFA to a normal PDF and—because of the dynamic fields—this should probably be done after you have filled it out because, after flattening, the feature to add or remove lines and pages within the document (like in the travel history form) will no longer function. It will just be a flat document.

There are several XFA to PDF converters online, here's one that's free and works pretty well - but you have to do one form at a time, so it can be cumbersome to do a bunch:

hey I'm in the same boat, I'm worried they won't be able to view it, did you have any issues with it or was okay?

FYI I submitted flat files without barcodes and received no pushback, it submitted fine. Considering the underlying technology is no longer supported because of incompatibility issues mentioned above, it's probably fine. Your mileage may vary.
