If it was between jobs, include it, because otherwise you would have a gap in your timeline. If it was just a vacation where you returned to the same job as before, you don't need to include it. If you are from a country where CIC also wants a list of your travels, you would have to include it there in either case.

You don't need it for that, since it wasn't residence

Thank you for your help :)..How about a visit to another country that lasted 4 and a half months? This is a visit to a family member, had a vacation there. Don't you think my stay is long enough to declare the place as an address for the said period of time?

It depends on what forms you have to fill out. Not all applicants have to fill out a travel form.

For the personal history form, everyone has to fill that out. There must be no gaps in the timeline. So if you took a two-week or month-long vacation, but kept your same residence and job and went back to both when you returned, you would not need to mention this on the personal history form/job form/address form. You would have to mention this on the travel form, if you are from a country where such a form is needed.

Now if you left a job, went on a vacation for a longer time, then came back and got a different job, (or a different address), then I would list this travel on your personal history form/job form/address form. Because if you do not, you will have a gap, which is not allowed. Ordinarily if there is a gap in the timeline, the visa officer will ask you to fill out the form again. You would also of course have to list this on your travel form, if one is needed.

For example:
Let's say you worked at Canada Post from 1998 to 2008. During that time you took a three-week vacation every year. For the 'personal history' question, you would just list the dates 1998 to 2008, job title, name of company, etc. You would not have to mention each vacation.
For the address question, let's say during the time above you lived at one address from 1998 to 2005, and another till 2008. Just list both. No need to list the addresses of where you stayed on vacation.

Let's say you then quit your job, moved out of your apartment, went on a 6-month round-the-world trip, and when you got back you moved into a new apartment and got a job at Company X. For your personal history question, you would have to list this time period, say you were travelling, and say what countries you visited. In the address section, you would have to attach a separate sheet to the forms and explain that you were travelling, state what countries you were in, and say you do not know the addresses of where you stayed. (If you do know, you could list them.)

Thanks very much for this explanation. It's clear to me now.

Cheers!

One suggestion - include everything since age 18... even if it is more than 10 years. Many people just gave the last 10 years thinking it is enough and then had CIC later come back and ask for everything since age 18. This happened to my wife too.
