Hello:

I need clarification on which form I should use - financial evaluation vs sponsorship evaluation. I am a Canadian citizen sponsoring my British husband who has a son who is non-custodial (will not be accompanying him). Also, we are living outside Canada in Naples, Italy. My husband is posted with the British Royal Navy and I am not employed. My husband will be retiring in the fall of 2011 and will receive a monthly pension immediately upon retiring. This pension will provide enough funds to support us during our resettlement. We have joint bank accounts, joint savings accounts and both have pension plans in place and are stable financially. We're both in our early 50s and intend to find employment in Canada. Will I be eligible to sponsor my husband despite not currently being employed?

Thank you for your advice,
PAW

You need sponsorship evaluation IMM5481. Also, do you have evidence showing your intention to returning Canada (such as purchase agreement of a dwelling in Canada)?

To be practical, it wouldn't be a good idea to purchase a property until we find employment. Then it makes sense to purchase a property. However, I have letters of support from my sister and son who state they would provide us with housing until we're established. I have maintained both a Canadian bank account, RRSPs and have a Cdn pension plan. Are there any other ways to show serious intention other than purchasing a property?
