I'm not familiar with the education system in the Philippines, so definitely don't take what I say as 100% accurate...

After looking at your options, it seems to me that you may actually have to choose between "trade/apprenticeship certificate/diploma" or "non-university certificate/diploma" because, as you point out, you did get a diploma after you completed the program. I should note that in your Schedule A, you are asked to be more thorough about your education history, so it's possible that there you can be more precise.

Not sure if that helped. There's likely someone here who can give you a far better and more convincing answer. Good luck!

Someone with more experience may be along to give you a more detailed answer, but as far as I’m aware, I don’t think it’s of huge importance as to which you choose.

IMM008 is a generic application form, thus, every applicant into Canada has to complete it. The categories probably assist in keeping track of people’s educational backgrounds for statistical purpose. Maybe even for point scoring with the economic migrants.

As you’ll have to declare where you attended college on the forms anyway, you’ll provide more detail there. Choosing either of those categories shouldn’t make a difference. If it was of vital importance to choose the exact one, surely the guide would stipulate it and provide an example to help people. As it stands, the choices are rather vague. That leads me to believe it’s not of huge importance.

Obviously, if you graduated high school and did no further education, and you select that you hold a PhD, then you will have some questions asked and that would likely be a misrepresentation.
