Is there a reason that you do not have the ability to get a marriage contract? Should it be a valid reason then with a written explanation CIC will possible accept it.

I don't think that will be a good enough reason. If you can, go for a visit to get it. It will also strengthen your application.

I do not know your situation. I hope you can arrange a way to get it. CIC needs to see the "hard proof" of your marriage. Getting a letter from the Imam to include your application if he is the one that preformed the ceremony would still be great though.

Yes, you will need to translate everything not in English or French. All my documents were in Arabic, I hired a certified translator, so it was only one step. Depending on the amount of forms or documents you have to be translated(and where you are) you should be able to get them all for under 250.00. Most translators will give you a "deal" when you have so many documents.

Not sure but I remember, I think I read somewhere that it has to be civil or something from the government.

You will need something from the government. Your marriage is only valid to CIC if its recognized by your country.

In the event your country recognizes marriages without a certificate and just a paper from the iman, you'll probably want to include a translated copy of these rules for the Visa Office because it would be the first time I've heard of it.
