Hi all,

I've recently gotten my Canada PR and I got married a few months later.
I've been to Canada on a short trip once and have my PR card.

I'm planning to move to Canada permanently in a month or so. I don't have a job yet in Canada.

Is there any way for my wife to come along with me on a short term visit visa? Will she get approved? She wants to come with me, see the country for a bit and then come under family class later. Or should I go first and then she applies for a visit visa? Or should I apply under family class?

What are my options here?
Appreciate your advice here.

Your wife can certainly apply for a visitor visa - however there's no guarantee it will be approved. TRVs are often refused for individuals who have spouses who are Canadian PRs or citizens since CIC often suspects the visitor has plans to remain in Canada long term. To have the highest chance of approval, she should provide strong proof of ties to her home country (e.g. job, assets, properties) and keep her trip short.

Thank you for your reply.

Say she does apply for a TRV and gets refused. Will this affect any of her applications in the future?
Also, do you know approximately how long does the process under family class usually take?

One TRV refusal will not impact a sponsorship application. How long the sponsorship takes will depend on where she's from.

I see. She's from India.

Also, one last question - how long will it take to receive an answer if she applies for TRV?

My Indian colleague (Canadian PR), working in tech industry in Canada, recently got married. He applied for TRV for his wife but it was refused as usual. So he applied sponsoring his wife for PR.
You can try your luck but ideally applying for PR is the best option.
