Job market in Canada is similar to India. You have to know someone and be well connected if you want to get a job in white collar industry.
Competition is fierce, hundreds of people apply for each vacancy and your chances are nil unless you know HR.

Don't be discouraged, come here anyway, maybe you are different and you'll change the way Canadians live hand to mouth, pay check to paycheck. This is how revolutions are started and famous people are created

I would say that once you are a PR everything else is quite straight forward. You start with any job, then move to a decent job, then move to a good job. Patience and hard work is the key.

That's sounds like a lot of money....

I remember when I started working that I could live with 1500 a month and I was eating outside at least 3 times a week.

It is just a matter of knowing how and where to save money (and lowing your cost of living/expectations).

Great! I am sure you can give me some practical advise.

First, when did you immigrate to Canada? Was it before or after 2009/recession?

If you immigrated when job market was healthy (as it used to be in US), then your advise would be irrelevant today.
But if your experience is relatively recent, I have some more questions to ask.

Assuming your timeline refers to your landing (06/2014), please kindly tell:

1. What was the first job you were hired for?

2. How exactly did you apply for it?

3. What was the next, "better" job you applied for and got hired?

4. How exactly did you apply for it?

5. What job do you have now?

6. How exactly did you apply for it?

When I ask "How exactly did you apply for it?", I mean where did you search for a job? How did you find out about it? How did you apply for it (online, in person)?

Thank you.

1980

Come on..when was that? In the 1980s?? ;D Would not even cover my rent.. We are using $3000 easy per month here in BC. Probably could cut it a bit, but no need for that at the moment.

Your friends might me unhappy thats why they stopped contacting you.I had lot of friends before migration.I worked as a computer programmer in Dubai for 2 years before migrating. Now working in a factory as labor for almost 3 years. No progress or much savings.I am not in contacts with most of my friends and even deleted my face book account. What I will tell about my job here? Most of my friends think I am well settled in Canada and forget them when busy. But reality I only know.

Transition from a Computer programmer job in Dubai to Loading and unloading job in Canada. They will laugh at me.

Here to get good jobs you need reference. If you don't have much contacts you will work the rest of your life in factory.May be if you go to college in Canada there is a chance for good job.If you are good in studies go to college asap. They give education loan.Or be prepared to work rest of your life in factory.

Cashier petrol station etc pay around $11.Minimum wage is $11.But then they deduct tax(around 15%), 1.78% Employment insurance and around 5% as Pension. What you get will be much less.
Factory jobs pay $17/hour but you wont get a factory job directly. You get job only through agency and they will give you $11/hour-$12/hour.

I live a stingy life.My monthly expense is less than $1100.You can live even at $1000/month or $3000/month.It depends on your life style.

Go to a province with more jobs(like AB).Best of Luck

As I mentioned, you need to adjust your expectations.

I paid 500 a month on rent. I lived in a house divided between 4 people.

Now I pay almost 1500, but as I said... that was after a few years here.

even though you have friends who are working as a casual or permanant, they wont tell you about the jobs, coz they feel jelous, if you ask for job to any of your friend, they think that no one helped me for job, why should i help anyone, no matter how close they are to you, let suffer, let go through the pain, self help is the best help, i have few relatives and friend, they really dont care about me, nor they are helping me with the information, im getting lot of information through forum only, only from forum im able to grab information about the situation in canada

As far as i have seen, Most of the immigrants from India and other countries work in different fields unrelated to their education and their experience which is really sad. What i have noticed so far is that, for a professional job in a big Canadian company they usually look for people with In-demand skill experienced(Like IT/ITES JOBS-non managerial positions and even other fields) people and someone with good communication skills. I was fortunate enough to get a professional job in the field (Market/Business Research Analytic's)of my study in Canada, Other three in my class ended up working at KFC, Gas stations and in a Post-office.

JOB: If you don't know any HR or if you don't have any professional contact, its better to approach a job consultancy, but they will eat up at-least 25%-40% of your salary ...but u might still get a job.
Its all about clearing the first round (usually technical) and expressing yourself in the HR round.

Expenses:
As a student I was sharing room with friend @ $400 per month, +$600 other monthly expenses (without car) in Barrie, Ontario. Total $1000/month

When my wife joined me(and I was working) I rented a basement at $800 per month. (In Brampton)
$600/per month food expenses(including outside food/junk ;) )
$370 car Insurance+$200 Fuel per month.
$60 - Internet +Phone $100 (me and wife)
Expense Total Approx $2,200

My Income - Around $2700
my wife(Part time @ Gas station) ($1200) = Total Income $3,900
Education loan = $600 per month
Saving approx $1100 per month.

Your saving can be higher if you have a spouse who is also working with you.

Cheers,
Varun

Why not say as it is?

If you do not have an experience, or your experience is outdated, why give new immigrants false hopes?

OK I will say it.

I think the way you "asked for help" from me was rude. Therefore just pretend my info is irrelevant and carry on.

Hope now it is clear.
