If you were on social assistance before the application is made, it shouldn't matter. You won't have to pay it back. But, any social assistance from Canada will be on record, and since it was in 2009 it will be on your Option C printout. So I would explain that the assistance was received before you got married, and well before you submitted the application.

Im Canadian Citizen was born in Ecuador and went to Canada when I was 4....now Im 23 got married December 2009 in Ecuador while vacationing there and meeting my grandparents. My husband is from Costa Rica, currently we are in Ecuador looking to go to his home country (Costa Rica) to spend some time with his relatives but our plans are to establish our lives in Canada.

My question is if it´s possible to apply for my husbands permanent residence while we are both in Costa Rica? What are the requirements? Do I need to show some sort of income as the sponsor? What are the steps to take?
How long would the process take?

As well I would like to inquire about a possible pregnancy during this process and would I be able to apply for my newborn´s (born outsideof Canada) Canadian Citizen.

Some of the reasons why we want to radicate in Canada are; I lived there all my life and love it there, did my studies there, my mother has reached old age and I would to look after her, and a better future for my coming children.

If you are planning pregnancy outside of canada, you are giving this idea of not coming back to Canada very soon. You have to prove that you will reside in Canada after your husband receives his visa.

Hi thanks for all the response I have recieved from everyone they have really helped alot...

Now I have a concern in my past post I asked about my option C printout.....I also especified that I am currentlly living in Costa Rica and I couldnt get this print out....I want to have clarified what would I have to do for my case in provision of that option C print out and/or in demonstration of any income for myself as the sponsor??? I´m sponsoring my husband would I still have put in some sort of income?

in one response they told me i wouldnt need that printout becuase im out of Canada...and in another that I do....so Im bit confused on that part please help me! I would appreciate it greatly

in my sponsor application it asks me for my mailing address and my residential address if different form mailing....Im living with my husband in Costa Rica so Im not living in Canada at the moment ...what address do I put??

If you can get the Option C printout, get it and send it in. If you really can't - because you didn't file taxes - attach an explanation and any proof of income you have. I didn't send in the printout because I had no income that year and so didn't file taxes - it has never been an issue. If you have no income, you can still sponsor, but I would then include proof of your husband's income or any savings or property the two of you have. The visa officer wants to see future plans - how you will support yourselves in Canada is part of that. No income now is OK, but showing you have plans to get an income once you and your husband come to live in Canada is important.

You are actually living in CR, not just visiting, so put your CR address as your residential address. If you want your mail to go there, fine; if you have parents or someone in Canada who can get your mail and send it to you, and that is what you prefer, use their address as your mailing address. If the mail service is fine in CR, I'd just use your CR address for both.

I filed outside of Canada and had no trouble getting the Option C Printout. Even though I was outside of Canada, I had some income so my parents filed for me to keep me up to date. They want to check your financial situation (social assistance, bankruptcy) and it's a required form. I called toll-free using Skype and they sent it to me no problems.

As for the addresses, you put your current address for residential. if that's costa rica, then that's what you put. Like me, you will have to demonstrate your plans to return to Canada when your husband receives his PR visa. There is lots of info on this forum that helped me prepare that aspect of my application.

I had another concern with regards to my husbands documents (ie:birth...marriage...police record) I know these documents need to be legalized in order to be legal for the use of the residency process but my question is do these documents apart from being translated into english do they also need to certified by the Canadian emabassy here in Costa rica ? (by experience the cost of that is usually expensive in Ecuador for our marriage certificate it cost me $50 just for one document)

aswell for the proof of our relationship we have alot of conversations.,..chats...and most of them are in spanish....i was thinking of translating them myself at least the most important ones do they need to be notarized?? legalized and what not?

Chats and emails can be translated yourself. They don't need to be done by the certified translator CIC wants for the official documents. It's basically a question of the expense.
Getting a notary who knows Spanish and English to look them over and certify they are adequate translations is good, but not necessary. If a friend translates for you, they can also write a letter stating the translations are accurate.

for the birth certificate, police documents, etc. I don't recall anywhere saying they had to be legalized. They do need to be translated by an official translator (i.e. someone approved by the Embassy).

I contacted our embassy here in Bolivia and they gave me the names of translators I could contact. then I gathered the official documents (Police certificates and birth certificate) and brought them to a couple of translators to get prices. You can bargain everything here, so I made a deal with the lady since it was several pages. but yes, it was expensive compared to other services here.

Like the previous person said, emails chats and letters can be done less formally - I translated ours and wrote a note explaining that fact on a cover page.

I havnt been on in a while but I have a new question!!??

On the residency application on the principal applicant (that would be in my case my husband) they ask for the sponsors legal status in the country (since Im applying for him from costa rica where we are both are living) now im not sure if that has to be the residency card they would give me here or a resolution sheet they would give me once i have been aproved in Costa Rica. All I have at this moment is a sheet costa Rican imagration gives you once you have applied for their resendency here stating all the papers you haved given them and that now they are being processed and now there is a waiting time.

I would like to know what sheet would i have to send along my husbands residency application for Canada of the three I mentioned above (photocopy of the costa rica residencce card? the resolution sheet? or the sheet of haven entered all documents to Costa Rican imagration for their residency saying its in process?

i know there is a process in between getting the resoltion sheet and the actual card, so i thought if It was the resolution sheet i could send would that be enough to send in with the application to Canada??

how is your application going?..are you in San José?? did you figure out the question of having a baby outside Canda (I became a Canadian when I was 8...)
