I'm an idiot

My application was returned to me in the mail today. I forgot to sign a form. I combed through that application literally ten times, double and triple checking that every single thing was filled out and signed. I have no idea how I missed it.

Normally? No big deal. Annoying, but I could just sign it and put it back in the mail.

...Too bad I used the old forms, which had to be received by 1/31 in order to be used. Too bad the application was returned to me literally ONE DAY LATER than I would have needed to receive it in order to just spend three seconds correcting the error and overnighting back to them.

Now I need to redo the entire application with the new forms and new requirements and I have cried more than once today. :((((

I feel like such a dumb person.

Have you asked them if they will make an exception and take your application as is?

When I got it in the mail today, it was too late to contact them, but I'm going to call tomorrow. However, my guess is 99% chance no. The letter with my returned application says it's completely unprocessed and won't be considered received until it is resubmitted. So it's not like they already opened a file for me or anything like that. When they get it, they will consider it received on that day, not two weeks ago. I will certainly beg them to make an exception but my understanding is that they don't make exceptions in these kinds of situations. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Keep your head up. Even if you have to re-do some forms, the majority of it seems the same and the information can be carried over between documents!

We filled out the application 4 times before finally submitting it. 1st time, procrastinated too long. 2nd time, sent it in, but withdrew it. Thank goodness we did as we applied inland with a freaking DVD with video on it, lol. 3rd time, more procrastinating. 4th time was the charm. Took me a bottle of benzos to get through it.

Don't feel bad. You made a mistake, and really all you have to do is copy over the info. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th time you fill it out with much better quality anyways ;)

Don't beat yourself up about it, it is easily done. I only just missed slipping up myself at the last moment where I realised I missed ticking a box in the middle of a long screed of declaration on one particular form.

As regards new pack vs old, I wouldn't waste your time contacting them and asking whether you can still use the old forms, they are bound to say no, but take a few weeks to do so! Far better to spend a day or two with a wet towel around your head and complete the new pack - you have all of the information already to do so, it should just be a form filling exercise!

As disheartening and frustrating as this must feel, like English-zid-lgoudam said, sometimes this kind of thing happens for a reason. It might just be a blessing in disguise. You may actually be averting any number of things like a less favourable officer, or maybe now that you are re-doing it you will see certain things that could be elaborated on or anything you may have missed and have the chance to perfect your application. We all have had moments in retrospect where we wish we had added something or when we start second guessing the job we did on our applications and start to panic! Chin up, you can do this and it shouldn't take you too much longer, hopefully just a few extra days. Good luck with everything.

I would definitely use the new application package. The call centre staff unfortunately can't be trusted to give the right answer for even the simplest questions. So even of one of them tells you it's OK to use the old forms - there's no guarantee that will be true once the application reaches Mississauga. Play it safe and use the new package.

I agree. We had to do our IMM5406 and IMM5669 three times. I am praying they do not ask for it to be redone again. :-[

Make sure that all sections are filled out even if they do not apply. Put "n/a"

Make sure the date are flush and no spaces in time. There can be no gaps in the timelines.

Make sure when you have to add an additional sheet that you copy the columns from the form the same way in excel.

The new Schedule A form is validated on the computer, and you can not leave gaps in time :D
