Illegal immigrant wants divorce...help!!!!!!

the groom was born in france, the wife born in canada, they marry in olso, norway in 2004 while she's on a vacation, they move back to her country (canada, BC) he gets a wk visa, they separate in 2006, his visa expires. They havn't seen each other since 2006. He is in the beginnings of getting status through wk, she never was a sponsor, he does not have one still. soon. my question is. She has dropped off the radar and will not communicate with him, she did claim that she filed for a divorce when he sent her the money to do so early 2012. but we then found out she simply took the money and did nothing.
As an illegal immigrant does he or can he get or file a divorce from her on his own?????
if so how?????
or is he doomed to stay married to now a stranger
please please anyone help
he has the marriage certificate in english and ID if that helps with anything???????????

It would be advisable to consult a lawyer for this kind of situation. The illegality if his status has pushed him into a dicey situation. I think if he can manage to get a work visa to revive his status, he can then file a suit against his ex wife for duping him of X amt of dollars based on mutual agreement for a divorce. Provided he knows the current address of the lady, and has evidence to substantiate his claim. The lady may likely want to free herself of court troubles and therefore legally file a divorce. Just my suggestion good luck to him.
