If someone with an active student visa applies for spousal sponsorship and an OWP, can they continue to live and work in Canada?

Just as the topic asks - does this work? I thought it fell under the umbrella of implied status or however that is phrased.

I asked something similar in this forum and was told that the applicant should make sure they stay within the terms of the study visa at least until receiving the OWP, and after that they'd be good with the implied status due to the OWP. But I am very much not an expert!
