Hi CIF

I just got word that I have been approved as a sponsor for my common law boyfriend! Hooray:)

The application has been forwarded to the London office.

My boyfriend and I are going travelling around Europe for the summer and plan to return to Canada in early September.

I am concerned that if our application is approved quickly they will request he send in his passport before our scheduled flight to Canada/ or during our trip this summer.

My question how quickly do you have to deliver your passport to the visa office once they agree to grant a PR visa? Is it possible to ask for extra time if you need it?

Thanks:)

Well its not just the passport you need to worry about, interview they mail the date to you and if you miss it??????Or if they need a new medical.....or anything else they may require???? i would have someone checking my mail and i would be checking the online status and emails they can use any means to contact you.and if they require a new medical or something and your traveling then you yourself delayed the process..

London very seldom interviews unless the bona fides of your relationship are not sufficient or there is some sort of red flag. Look at others who applied on www.trackitt.com and you will see that most did not have an interview.

There used to be some pretty good London threads on this site so search for them if you can. London doesn't normally request the passport until a positive decision has been made, unlike other visa office which seem to request as a matter of rote and can take a very long time to return them. Dehli is one the comes to mind. Once requested, the turnaround time to get the stamped passport back is around two weeks.

Ensure that the contact information on your boyfriend's Application for Permanent Residence is current, i.e. cell phone number and email address. Check your email regularly while travelling. If you don't have a representative, they will contact your boyfriend via phone or email to request the passport. Sometimes they make a request by mail but not often. Have a trusted friend or family member collect the mail and check in regularly with them.

Anytime limits to submit the passport with be in the instructions they send or give to you. Like I said, there used to be a good thread on here for London applicants so do a search and read up on their experiences. Good luck.

Hi all,

Thanks for your feedback.

I listed both our mailing addresses as our parents addresses, and they are monitoring the post for us. Also I keep an eye on the ECAS website. The boyfriend's email address is also up to date, and we gave them his parents number in Ireland.

I hope we have enough evidence of our relationship and proof that we lived at the same address for a year. We provided a ton of stuff and I'm not sure what else we could give! Oh well- fingers crossed!!

I will check out the other London threads.

Cheers,
Jo
