So basically, i am current student and studies are finishing in august , i have been in canada since jan 2019 and i am going to apply for pgwp soon ,
I have few things that are haunting my mind, i worked about 20-28 hrs during the covid relaxation period to work full time during my semester (essential services)
So just wanted to ask …how will cic know that i worked in essential services
If they see that i worked more than 20hrs per week :-
Work info—
Joined jun 18
Worked 20/25 hrs a week till august (SIN)
full time august - dec (scheduled break)
(SIN)
I have never worked before than or after at all,
I do have that “we are essential business “ letter from the company but that is dated November as it was all verbal before that they were essential given they were definitely essential service which they confirmed with the government ,
So i want to know if im good to go or am i getting in trouble

Would it not have been best for you to have found out how this will affect your pgwp PRIOR to working more hours? Lots of people come here asking questions like this after the fact and I just don't get it - why jeopardise the future when everyone knows the rules?

Your hours will be reflected on your paystub, no? So it shouldn't be hard for cic to figure it out.

Hopefully the essential business exception will cover you and you won't have any problem.

Hey, thx for the reply , i only started working because of that rule and they were a legitimate essential service business under “manufacturing “ and i do have the letter in mail from my HR but its dated as of November, but i worked for the same company whole time , i am just asking if i need to add something to my application or cic would know cuz i have some friends who worked more than 40 hrs in that period and did not attach anything and got their pgwp. I think if cic check my hrs in any case , they would have my ROE as well which reflects i worked for same company.

The problem with “I have a friend who violated the rules and got PGWP” is that its not the IRCC rule. If everybody will do that because somebody else did, then that’s the start of the collapse of the whole system. Just like @wonderbly , I also don’t get it.

You said you worked on-campus? If you did, then you can work more than 20hrs per week, even without the pandemic temporary policy.

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/work/work-on-campus.html

Who you can work for
An “on-campus” employer can be:

  • the school
  • a faculty member
  • a student organization
  • yourself, if:
    • you run a business that is physically located on-campus (for example: you own a coffee shop that is located on campus)
  • a private business
  • a private contractor that provides on-campus services to the school
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/study-permits/working-on-campus.html

Definition of "on-campus work"
"On-campus" is defined as employment facilities within the boundaries of the campus. The students are only allowed to work on the campus of the educational institution at which they are registered in full-time studies. If an institution has more than one campus, the student can work at different locations on those campuses provided they are within the same municipality. If an institution has campuses in different cities, the student is restricted to working on the institution's campus where they are registered as a full-time student.
Students may work on campus as teaching or research assistants and may be located at a library, hospital, or research facility affiliated with the institution but located outside the physical boundaries of the institution's campus. This is allowed provided that the work is strictly related to the student's research grant.

Working on campus in addition to working off campus
There are no restrictions on the number of hours students can work on campus [as per R186(f)] in addition to working off campus, provided they continue to meet the applicable eligibility requirements.

hey , i think you are getting me wrong here , i did not break any rule or something, same goes woth my friends, the rule said that international students can work full time during the semesters as well ,i stated that. I am asking if i need to write an LOE or attach some extra document with it or no . Reason why i refered about my friends that they did not attack any anything extra and got their pgwp approved.
edit :- sorry i wrote on-campus , it would be during the semester + off campus

OP is likely pointing out to the below article in the newsroom

In my case , my semester break begin from aug 20 anyways till December ,
But yh the rules were till aug 31 , no extension
Working more hours during semester break is non-issue.
I see that you worked extra hours till August 2020. In that case since the rule was in place at that time, and you were classified as essential - you should be good.

You'd have to mention in an LOE of what you told us here, if your scheduled break was from Aug-Dec, tell that.
Also the rules were relaxed for essential workers from around April 22, 2020 until end of Aug 2020.

Make sure you mention everything.

Officer might see you not studying in Aug - Dec, and just think you skipped a sem, be sure to provide documentation that you had a scheduled break at that time.

If anyone skips a semester, college automatically sends a no-show to ircc through their DLI number :) , i will attack the letter of completion and my transcripts showing i finished my studies on time.
iil attack the LOE thou as u advised PS will confirm with immigration lawyer about that

Not necessarily, IRCC usually requests info through DLI reporting, and the school doesn't always update your status.
Just attach a letter mentioning what you told us here.
