Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
Hello,
I am a visitor to Calgary/AB since 17 months with my wife and two kids,
we are waiting for the regulations change in June, 1st 2014 to apply for study permit for me and open work permit for her from within Canada,
my wife will give birth late in June,
I have two questions:

If the birth happen while we are visitors ...
1- will the baby become Canadian ?
2- If our status changed soon after delivery, and our Alberta Health Care is issued then, will that help us retrospectively ? I mean regarding to the baby's Citizenship and delivery expenses ...
thanks for reading,
Regards,

1. Yes - the baby will be a citizen automatically.
2. No - if you qualify for medical coverage after the birth, the costs of the birth won't be retroactively refunded. You will only be covered going forward.

thanks a lot,
really, I appreciate such fast and informative reply,
:)

Hi Mr Energy,

The answer to your first question is YES your baby will "automatically" be a citizen if he/she is born here in Canada. What you have to do is to apply for his/her birth certificate and later Canadian Passport when he/she is born.

The answer to your second question is if your wife gets her Health Card before the baby is born, then YES she will not have to pay for delivery. But if she does not have her health card before the baby is born then you will have to pay out of pocket except you have health insurance that can help with the cost,

I hope this helps....and Congratulations on the baby :D

1. Yes.
2. No.
3. You know that the changes for a visitor to apply for a study permit in Canada are quite specific?

Visitors may apply for a study permit from within Canada if they are at the pre-school, primary or secondary level, are on an academic exchange or a visiting student at a designated learning institution, or have completed a course or program of study that is a condition for acceptance at a designated learning institution.

I somehow doubt that you are attending pre-school, primary or secondary level

thanks a lot PMM for concern and reply, adding new dimension for the post,
I am a visiting PhD student in a governmental co-scholarship program between my home University in Egypt and the University Of Calgary in Canada,
Do you think me involved in these special cases ?
regards and Respect,

thanks, Johnny31, for reply, even if telling not good news for me :),
so, what is meant by "designated learning institution" ? doesn't the University Of Calgary considered one of the designated learning institution(s) ?
by the way ...
I am fully funded by the Egyptian government till Oct. 2014 then my Canadian supervisor offered a full fund for the next two years and I already applied at the University of Calgary, got an admission offer, and just waiting for the study permit.
thanks
