IELTS OVERALL 7 BUT 5 BAND IN READING

Hi Everyone,

I got my IELTS score few days back and to my shock I only got 5 band in reading but overall I got 7 with 8 in Listening, 8 in speaking and 6 in writing. I sent my score to the college and waiting for their approval. Please can anyone advice me on VISA problems with that score.

Hi,

As you already know that on SPP/General visa checklist, the IELTS requirement is '6.0 overall' (with no minimum band). Going by this straightforward rule, you are eligible to apply.

I am NOT sure how your college is going to respond! If they have any minimum individual band requirement, thn you might get in trouble. The individual band requirement is usually 6.0 for college and 6.5 for University.

[Canada Help]

Hey there ,

the visa office has no minimum cut-off for the IELTS score.I know a lady who lives in vancouver and has contacts with the canadian government.
She is into career counselling and is a socialite and a social worker.she said a number of things about student visa and how to thread about the process.
She said that once you submit your application the visa officer checks the website of your college to see what is the score that is required by the institution.If your score is upto that limit you are past this hurdle.

for which college you have applied and for which course???as u talk about visa so your IElts score is quite better!!just go ahead and apply for Visa!!!Best of LuCK!!!!

I applied for Veterinary Technologist 2 year course in Georgian College, admissions office sent me conditional offer letter in which they mentioned that I need to get at least 6.0 (or 6.5) to issue an unconditional offer. On the college website the requirement is 6.0 or 6.5 overall and not less than 5.5 in any band. But they failed to mention that in my conditional letter. If that is the case according to Canada Help (one of our own member in this forum) I am doomed.

Hi,

College website mention only general IELTS requirement. It doesn't mean if it's applicable to all courses. Your LOA states exact requirement.

May be you should take IELTS again. I see only problem, if any, from your school.

Hard Luck mate! Just wondering if you can score 8 in Speaking & Listening then why didn't you get atleast 5.5 in Reading Even i got 5.5 in Reading(my overall band is 6.0 ) Almost all Colleges require at least 5.5 bands in each module for almost all courses. I think you will need to retake IELTS exam.
