IELTS marking technique for Listening and Reading sections

Hi,

I wanted to understand how answers are actually marked for listening and writing sections. Do they award a mark only if all the words in an answer exactly match? For e.g. If correct answer is 'a pivotal character' but if I write 'pivotal character' would that be considered correct?
